The Bar Council of England and Wales has been invited to participate in an exciting European wide project to train lawyers on violence against women, particularly how women can be supported in cases of gender violence. Each participating country will select an area of Violence against Women (VAW).

Our seminar will focus on forced marriage, honour-based abuse and FGM which continue to remain an issue for England and Wales. The victim specific issues associated with this form of offending do pose a challenge for law enforcement and case presentation in court.

A key outcome of the project is a manual of good practice which will detail the national law applicable to cases of VAW and the specific good practice in each jurisdiction participating in the project.

This event is subjected to a registration fee:

  • £110 + VAT for barristers under 7 years of practice

  • £130 + VAT for barristers over 7 years of practice

The seminar is aimed at training 30 domestic lawyers on the issues of Violence against Women - 15 attendees from London area and 15 from the circuits.
