  • 9 February 2017 - Bar Council 2016 Key Highlights 2016 has been a challenging year for the legal sector, with increasing court fees threatening the access to justice, and the Brexit vote introducing uncertainty. However, the Bar Council continued to campaign assiduously on behalf of the Bar, and to support the profession in delivering specialist advice and advocacy.

  • 27 January 2017 - The Bar Human Rights Committee (BHRC) and the Bar Council have today urged Prime Minister Theresa May to address ongoing human rights violations in Turkey when she meets with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan this Saturday. In an open letter to the Prime Minister, BHRC and the Bar Council have highlighted the systematic persecution of lawyers and judges in Turkey, particularly in the months following the unsuccessful coup of 15 July 2016.

  • 27 January 2017 - The Bar Council has responded to the BSB’s annual Diversity at the Bar report, published today. Chairman of the Bar, Andrew Langdon QC said:“I am urging all barristers, whatever their backgrounds, to disclose their diversity data when they renew their practising certificates this year."
